Quote

  • It is possible to escape a multitude of trouble by living an insignificant life.

    John Henry Jewett

  • Great occasions do not make heroes or cowards; they simply unveil them to the eyes of men. Silently and imperceptibly, as we wake or sleep, we grow strong or we grow weak, and at last some crisis shows us what we have become.

    B. F. Scott

{Thursday's Quote - April 3}

We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what will do, by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery.

{Thursday's Quote focus for the month of April:  Wisdom}

{Work Out}

There are certain advantages and disadvantages when your spouse works in the health and fitness industry.

Advantages:

-Free memberships to health clubs/facilities (as a spouse)

-Free workout sessions

-Inside tips on how to eat and live healthy

Disadvantages:

-Can’t skip workout sessions

-Watches the number of ‘water breaks’ that you take

-Comes over to where you are and says ‘you’re not giving it your all – give me 5 more’

After a brief hiatus, I recently started working out again. The last few weeks were going good - Marc frequently asked me,

“How’s it going? Feeling any pain, yet?”

I usually responded, “No, not yet.”

That is, until last Thursday. I woke up with pain in my lower legs – pain like the pain I occasionally felt when I ran track in High School. The pain was from our cardio session -- shuttle runs, or what seemed like an advanced version of shuttle runs.

Aging is a funny thing – in your mind you feel like you can still do the things that you did when you were young, but your body responds, ‘And. . . NO. . .’ Marc and I both ran track in high school -- in my mind I start to think - even though it has been awhile, I'm still an athlete - I can do this. LOL. . .

Friends are those rare people who ask how we are and then wait to hear the answer.

{Thursday's Quote - March 20}

Friendship is a strong and habitual inclination in two persons to promote the good and happiness of one another.

{Bursts of Laughter}

This past Sunday, Marc prepared dinner for us – dinner like the ones my Grandmother used to make. Roast, greens, sweet potatoes, cheesy cauliflower – yumm! (The only missing food item was the cornbread.) He’s a great cook, even though he doesn’t seem to think so. My cooking skills are decent, it’s not that I’m a bad cook; it’s just that I don’t really like to cook. When it comes to being domestic and taking care of the home, I’d prefer to clean, decorate, iron, laundry, etc., except cook.

So, while we’re enjoying our dinner, Marc asks me for a second helping. I thought sure, no problem. I left the dining room and headed towards the kitchen. For some reason, I thought he was finished with his sweet potato, so I scraped the contents of the plate into the trash. Before I could turn to get the roast, I hear:

“Did you just throw away my food?"

“Yes. I thought you were finished."

Silence.

“I’m sorry.”

I tried to think of something to say to recover.

“I forgave you for the time you accidentally threw away the wedding decorations.”

Yes, a few days before our wedding he accidentally threw away the bag of tulle and other decorations into the garbage dumpster. It was a few hours later that I realized the decorations were missing. At that moment, we made a mad dash to the dumpster in the apartment complex (frantic bride-2-be on the loose). Marc climbed into the dumpster, and looked for the missing bag of decorations. I think we both would have laughed at the thought of what we were doing that moment, but it was a bit too tense and stressful. The wedding was only a few days away, I didn’t have time to shop for new decorations. Fortunately, he found the bag; the contents weren’t spoiled or ruined. . .

So when I walked back into the dining room, he was still silent. I knew that he was probably a little upset – he wanted to eat that last bite of sweet potato. LOL!  But then, we burst into laughter. Just another one of those life moments that we can laugh about, and move on. . .

{Thursday's Quote - March 13}

Friendship is born at the moment when one person says to another, "What you too?", I thought no one but myself.
